The all-electric Peugeot e-Expert van

29/03/20236 minutes read

The Peugeot e-Expert debuted in 2020 as part of the French car manufacturer’s plan to electrify its entire portfolio of vans. The all-electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) was made primarily to meet the needs of fleet professionals and with less fuel usage and maintenance costs compared to its ICE counterpart, the e-Expert’s impact to businesses all over the UK was immediate.

Expert versus e-Expert

The e-expert followed the successful launch of the Peugeot Expert in 2016 as part of Peugeot’s ‘Power of Choice’ initiative in its bid for a 100% electrified LCV range. As such, it bears similarities to its diesel-engine counterpart as a versatile, large load volumed van option with updated on-board technology. The difference? You get all the benefits whilst improving your cashflow (more on that later) and reducing your carbon footprint. Click here for full specification.

Driving performance of the e-Expert

The Peugeot e-Expert delivers an enjoyable driving performance with specially calibrated power steering system for smooth manoeuvring at any speed and specific shock absorbers and springs to maintain a comfortable experience even when carrying maximum load.

Range and charging features of the e-Expert

The e-Expert arrived with two battery size options:

50 kWh, for a range of 200 kilometres
75 kWh, for a variety of 300 kilometres

Additionally, it hosts several types of on-board chargers compatible with a variety of charging solutions, with a 7.4 kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 11 kW three-phase charger.

Its most impressive charging feature is its programmable deferred charge option which can be found on the Connected Navigation screen or from the MyPeugeot® smartphone application which allows you to manage your charging remotely24/7 and check charging status.

Running costs of the e-Expert

All things considered the e-Expert is a much cheaper option to run than its ICE counterpart (The e-Expert can cost 2.1p per mile to run to the Diesel Expert’s 10.3p per mile) * and can boost your businesses cashflow both immediately and in the long-term. Service and maintenance fees are lower due to fewer moving parts and fluids to change. For example, a lack of a transmission means no expensive clutch replacements needed.

The e-Expert charging costs will depend on your energy provider, your electricity tariff, and the type of public charger you use. Although subject to change, it’s currently exempt from road tax, company car tax charges, and congestion charge areas such as Clean Air Zones (CAZ) and Ultra-Low Emissions Zones (ULEZ).

Reliability and safety of the e-Expert

The Peugeot e-Expert comes with remote central locking capabilities with the option for further safety measures such as autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitors and lane-departure warnings.

After thorough testing by Euro NCAP, the e-Expert was awarded a silver safety level, making it one of the safest and most reliable LCV’s around.

The e-volution of EV technology

The Peugeot e-Expert earns its moniker as the ‘next-generation van’ by constantly upgrading to keep up with the evolution of electric vehicle technology. We are only just beginning to test the limits of EV technology with battery and charging improvements constantly tested and the e-expert stands the test of time as we head towards a fully electric automotive future.

Plan for 2030 today

2030 will see the end of the sale of new petrol and diesel petrol and diesel vehicles and whilst that may feel like a long time in the future, early adopters of EVs began their transitions a decade ago and are still working their way through the transition.

The average transition takes around 18 months, you need to start planning now. Click here for more information.
