Northgate continues to invest in specialist technical training to help support our customers. We achieve this by strengthening our workshop and mobile technician population across our network to help keep your vehicles compliant and on the road.
The Northgate Technical Training Team are responsible for creating, designing, and delivering bespoke training for Northgate Mobility Workshop Operations, ensuring continuous professional development is available with knowledge and skills remaining current and relevant to our industry and marketplace.
The team's passion and aims are to create inviting, open and creative learning environments which heighten levels of awareness, improve knowledge, develop skills and increase motivation and attitudes. Northgate understands that fluent, end-to-end training paths are important to our colleagues' careers; we believe in creating more role-enhancing development and training opportunities while introducing emerging industry requirements for our workshop colleagues.
The Northgate Technical Training Team recently facilitated their first delivery of the IMI Level 3 Award in Cargo Refrigerant Handling from Northgate’s IMI-accredited training centre. The course was led by James Walton and focused on developing specialist knowledge around refrigeration systems, and safe and legal refrigerant handling. This training is the first step of several in a Cargo refrigeration specialist training pathway created for Northgate.
The course brought together colleagues from across the wider Northgate Mobility business, including engineers Steve Cowell and Matt Cole from Northgate Temperature Controlled and Paul Branston, Northgate Vehicle Hire Mobile Team Leader, highlighting strong collaboration between the teams to ensure accurate, practical, and real-world industry knowledge was delivered and shared.
Key areas of development:
✓Principles of refrigeration - Understand the operation of refrigeration systems.
✓Refrigerant handling & Refrigeration system components - Understand the use and properties of the fluorinated greenhouse gases used as refrigerants in automotive refrigerated cargo vehicles, and the impact of the emissions of these gases on the environment.
✓Health and safety - Understand the relevant provisions and regulations.
✓Safe recovery, evacuation, and recharge processes - Understand and demonstrate common procedures, including best practices for recovering fluorinated greenhouse gases.
Northgate Vehicle Hire’s Mobile Technician population are to attend as part of Northgate’s commitment to expanding technical capability across the business.
For customers, this investment means access to a broader range of specialist support from technicians who are continually developing their skills both in branch and on the road. As fleets become more advanced and customer requirements more varied, training like this helps Northgate deliver a safer, more efficient service across a wide range of vehicle types.
